Garrett Reynolds Pro Q&A Excerpts

By now you probably read the May 2009 issue of Ride with the Garrett Reynolds Pro Q&A. As you already know, we can’t fit all of the questions in the magazine no matter how hard we try, so here are a few questions that didn’t make it into the issue.

Yup, that barspin to ice again. Photo: Jeff Z.
What’s your favorite trick to do? And do you get nervous throwing bars-to-icepicks down handrails?
Mark S.
I like barspins and toothpick hangovers a lot. I get nervous, but it’s nothing you can’t put past yourself.
I know you like big bars and riding brakeless, but other than that, how do you like your bike set up? Can we look forward to any Garrett Reynolds’ signature parts or shoes in the future? I’m only a couple years younger than you, yet I am a huge fan of yours. Keep up the good work.
Mitch B.
Thanks dude. I just got a frame out and there’s talk of parts in the future. I run my bike real simple and short because I’m small and I run my bars a little back, otherwise nothing really complicated.
I was wondering how old you were when you did your first barspin and were you scared to try them? I want to see you do a 540 bar, 720, and a 900 down some stairs.
Duane
I learned them when I was 13. Anything is scary when you first learn it and all those tricks are dream ticks to me.
How do you go throw the tricks without fear?
Mati
I don’t do scary stuff compared to people who can do big crazy box tricks, but I’m just used to doing what I like to do on my bike.
What’s the best concert you have been to? Do you like reggae?
Herb
I listen to everything, but I wish I could say the best concert I saw was King Diamond, but I haven’t been yet.
What do you think are the coolest parts that you don’t use? Are you a tech guy when it comes to bike parts? I know your bike is hooked up, but what was your first good bike like? Do you have any crazy ideas for new bike parts?
Herb
No, my bike is a bit heavier so I don’t break it and my first sick bike was a Kink Freebird.
Is there a bar-catch-bar-catch-bar in the future?
Dillon H.
I don’t know? I don’t really go high enough to have time to do that. Hopefully one day.
[I] Loved your part in Writing On The Wall, I really enjoy watching you ride. You have a sweet style! But anyways, when you get back to school do people know what you do and why you miss so much school?
EmpIre00
Thanks a bunch dude. Mostly just the people I’m friends with and talk to and some random weirdoes know what I do.
Have you ever been to Moorpark College in California? It would be insane for you to go there.
Conner
No, but I’ll be sure to check it out next time I’m in California—good looks.
Is there one trick that haunts you like from a bail or something and you’re just scared of it?
Michael, New Zealand
Yeah, crankarm grinds on rails. I’ve gotten broke a couple times on that one. I always sweat them really bad.
I’m a rider from Romania, and I’m curious if you’ve ever heard about this country? If you did you should bring some of your guys and head this way because we have great street spots and no police.
Alin, Romania
That sounds awesome. Hopefully one day I’ll make it out there. It sounds like dream land street—no getting kicked out!

what a day
